In January, Paul Ryan said of Trump’s mass deportation promise:
“I’m here to tell you, in Congress, it’s not happening.”
Just a month later, Trump’s deportation force is a reality hurting millions of immigrants and communities. This is not business as usual. We demand that he stop the raids now!
Speaker Ryan,
President Trump has declared war on immigrants, our families and our communities. Through executive orders, he vastly expanded the group of immigrants considered priorities for deportation, ordering agents to arrest any undocumented immigrants they encounter. The escalation and changes in raids have led to nothing but anxiety and fear for our communities. The places we live, the faith that we practice, and our past choices should not determine the value of our lives.
We demand that these raids stop. Immigrants, documented or undocumented, with or without criminal records, are not the issue hurting our nation. When survivors of domestic abuse, people seeking shelter from a place of worship, people with legal protections like DACA, and people seeking a better life are detained and cannot seek the resources they need – we are all less safe. Together, we can take the steps necessary to protect all immigrants and fight back against these advances to violate their rights.
